About The Company

My client an established design and manufacturer of bespoke, turnkey industrial machinery and subcontract services are currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer or Draughtsperson. As a Design Engineer or Draughtsperson, you will be responsible for undertaking a variety engineering tasks, including designing, researching and prototyping new products. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience of using CAD and CAE software, such as SolidWorks and/or Inventor.

Design Engineer / Draughtsman - Key Responsibilities

  • Modelling & Reproducing Drawings of Parts/Assemblies from Customer Drawings / Sketches in AutoCAD / SolidWorks / Inventor while applying correct tolerances and or Geometric Tolerancing
  • Measuring Supplied Parts / Samples and producing Drawings, including Reverse Engineering
  • Site Visits for Surveying & Engineered Solutions Purposes
  • Liaising with customers regarding requirement and technical details
  • Sourcing Engineering Technical data (Seals, Bearings, Bought in Parts, Materials Etc)
  • Engineering Calculations (Density of materials Etc, Motor requirements, Sealing solutions)
  • Providing 3D CAM model Data to Machine Shop
  • Issuing drawings / jobs to Machine shop
  • Performing measuring Checks on machined parts
  • Data entry (logging of orders on database, Work Scheduler)
  • Producing DXF Drawings from customer drawings, sketches and templates for use by profiling (laser / Waterjet)
  • Reverse engineering parts from customer samples
  • Producing Folding Drawings for Press operators
  • Calculating material requirements for rolled parts
  • Converting Drawing formats for laser department

Design Engineer Draughtsman - Experience Requirements

  • Ideally educated to a minimum HND level in Mechanical Engineering (Degree would be preferred)
  • An excellent grasp of engineering and design principles
  • A creative, logical approach for generating new ideas and solutions, with the ability to transition these through to part development
  • A sound knowledge of SolidWorks and/or Inventor CAD, technical drawings and 3D modelling
  • A good knowledge and understanding of the qualities of metals, materials and components
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills
