Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Hours: Part-time, 10 – 12 hours per week (flexible), hybrid working, including 2 mornings or afternoons per week in the estate office

About Downes Estate:
Downes Estate is a historic, privately owned estate in the heart of Devon. With a mix of agricultural, residential and heritage interests, the estate office plays a vital role in managing daily operations, finance and communications across all aspects of the estate.
Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and organised part-time Bookkeeper/Administrator to join our small, friendly team. You will be working directly with the owners. This is a key role in the day-to-day running of the estate office, with responsibility for financial management, administration and maintaining effective communication with tenants, contractors and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records using digital accounting software
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping including invoicing, bank reconciliations and accounts payable/receivable
- Prepare financial reports and budgets
- Ensure compliance with all estate lettings
- Ensure compliance with HMRC and statutory requirements (VAT returns, etc.)
- Support the owners with administrative duties such as correspondence, filing, diary management, minute taking and record-keeping
- Liaise with tenants, suppliers, contractors and professional advisors as required
- Assist with document preparation and project support (e.g. property maintenance records)
- Assist with the management of social media
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure sensitive information is handled appropriately
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in a similar bookkeeping and administrative role
- Strong knowledge of digital accounting software
- High level of proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel, Word and Outlook)
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Discretion, reliability and attention to detail
