Booming profession seeking ‘unretired’ as well as new apprentices
We’re all rather concerned about the current cost of living crisis. However, for one profession, inflation and uncertainty around future costs has created a bit of a boom.
Chartered Surveyors, and similar professionals provide specialist advice on
buildings and a big part of what they do is to work out the rebuild value of
properties. With construction costs changing erratically all of the time right now, their skills have become even more highly valued by both property investors and the insurance industry.
The current cost of living crisis is also a factor behind a relatively new trend known as ‘unretirement’ where skilled professionals are going back to their roles after previously calling it a day. Google searches around “returning to work after
retirement” have increased by 200% over the past 12 months alone.
Now, one Puttenham based surveying and risk management company, is not only seeking apprentices to join its rapidly growing business, but it is also looking to tempt qualified Chartered Surveyors, or other professionals from similar backgrounds, out of retirement to help meet demand for its services. Rebuild Cost
Assessment Ltd (RCAL), which is part of the award winning RiskSTOP Group
produces building valuations for insurance purposes and the business has doubled in just the last 12 months.

RCAL Director James Scott-Brown (pictured), explained: “We are really booming right now and there are no signs of this letting up in the long-term. Although we’re investing heavily in an
apprenticeship programme to attract more into the profession, we also need people who already have the skills and knowledge to carry out site surveys and to quality assure our work.
“So, we’re issuing a call to any Chartered Surveyors, or other professionals from similar backgrounds, out there who may be missing the fulfilling work they used to carry out and who would like to go back to it in a more flexible way. If you’d like to join a successful business with a strong reputation for looking after its workforce really well, now is definitely the time to give us a call.”
