The Government Department The Office for National Statistics reports that despite the effect of rising interest rates, there is still massive demand for people to fill employment vacancies.  At latest published count for April 2023, there were 1,124,000 unfilled vacancies.  
 
Here's an overview of the areas that are on the hunt for the most workers.
 
Healthcare and social care: This sector has the most employment vacancies in the UK, with over 400,000 vacancies. This is due to a number of factors, including the ageing population, the increasing demand for healthcare services, and the shortage of skilled workers in this field.
 
Hospitality and leisure: This sector is also facing a shortage of workers, with over 200,000 vacancies. This is due to a number of factors, including the increase in tourism, the growth of the food delivery industry, and the rise in the number of people working from home.
 
Construction: The construction sector is also facing a shortage of workers, with over 100,000 vacancies. This is due to a number of factors, including the growth in the construction industry, the ageing workforce, and the shortage of skilled workers in this field.
 
IT and telecommunications: The IT and telecommunications sector is also facing a shortage of workers, with over 50,000 vacancies. This is due to a number of factors, including the growth in the IT and telecommunications industry, the ageing workforce, and the shortage of skilled workers in this field.
 
Education and training: The education and training sector is also facing a shortage of workers, with over 40,000 vacancies.  This is due to a number of factors, including the growth in the education and training sector and the shortage of skilled workers in this field.
